Mugithi sensation Samidoh turned a high-energy live performance into a political moment after he paused mid-set to lead his crowd in a spirited tribute to Nairobi senator Edwin Sifuna.
Clips from the indoor show, which have since gone viral, show the musician performing in a packed venue bathed in colourful stage lights, with guitars adorning the decor and fans dancing on a packed floor. Samidoh is seen strumming his electric guitar as the crowd sings along enthusiastically.
Partway through his performance, Samidoh pivoted into a Kikuyu line that had little to do with the song at hand. He began repeatedly chanting "Eee ngemi cia Sifuna," a phrase that loosely translates to "the praises or songs of Sifuna," referencing Sifuna by name.
