Two people rescued as search operations continue after Eastleigh building collapse

The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) has received eight modernised MD500 Defender helicopters donated by South Korea following a two-year maintenance and refurbishment programme in the United States (US).

The aircraft arrived in Kenya last month after undergoing maintenance and upgrade works in the US since late 2023. Officials said they have since completed flight tests and are awaiting deployment.

The donation fulfils a pledge made by South Korea during the 2021 United Nations Peacekeeping Ministerial Meeting in Seoul to provide helicopters in support of UN peacekeeping operations across Africa.
