Former Manchester United captain Roy Keane says the club are "like a circus" after defender Lisandro Martinez's criticism of the hierarchy.

Martinez's comments came after Tuesday's 2-0 defeat by Atletico Madrid in the Champions League, which stretched their winless streak to five games.

The Argentina international criticised United for not strengthening the squad in the summer following qualification for the Champions League, saying he expected more investment in the United squad and "more from our technical director [Jason Wilcox]".

Speaking on The Overlap, external podcast, Keane said Martinez's statement reflected the overall state of the club.

"There will be some fans saying it's great and some saying you're letting the team down, especially from a player who hasn't been at his best, when the team is struggling," Keane said.
