A Canadian man reportedly lost his life savings in a tree-planting investment in Kisii and is appealing for help to return home after nearly two years in Kenya.

A Canadian man is reportedly homeless in Nairobi after a tree planting investment deal in western Kenya wiped out his life savings, leaving him stranded and unable to fund his return journey home.

The man, who is of Chinese heritage and was born in India before his family eventually settled in Toronto, Canada, travelled to Kenya with genuine hopes of building a profitable business.

A Kenyan contact persuaded him that investing in trees was a sound venture, and trusting that assurance, he transferred money for the purchase of seedlings and their planting on land in Kisii County.

The seedlings were planted as agreed, but the arrangement soon took a damaging turn when the Kenyan partner subsequently used the same land as collateral to secure a bank loan.
