The former Interior Cabinet Secretary added that Kenya is headed to the wrong direction under the leadership of Ruto, saying a change of leadership will turn things around.

Speaking during a church service in Nairobi, Matiang'i said the ideal way to give Ruto a challenge will be if opposition leaders work as a team and come up with a winning formula.

"I urge my colleagues in the opposition to come together, work together and find an alternative if we want to form the next government," Matiang'i said.

His sentiments were echoed by leaders who accompanied him during the service, among them former CS Ezekiel Machogu and Kitutu Chache South MP Anthony Kibagendi.

Matiang'i also condemned a section of youth heckling outside the church, accusing some leaders in Nairobi for organising the hecklers.
