Works along the highway have been intensified, with sections of the road expected to be opened to traffic before the end of the year.
President William Ruto has announced that the Rironi-Mau Summit Highway will be completed by April 2027, two months ahead of the initial June deadline.
Speaking during a church service at St. Mark’s Catholic Church in Likuyani Constituency on Sunday, October 11, Ruto said the first phase of the Northern Corridor project, which runs to Mau Summit, would be completed by April next year.
The project forms part of the Northern Corridor, a major transport route linking the Port of Mombasa to other East African countries.
Ruto added that construction of the next section, from Mau Summit to the border town of Malaba, would begin once the first phase is complete.
