Discussions are still ongoing regarding the Defence Cooperation Agreement (DCA) between the two countries, which governs the British Training Unit in Kenya (BATUK).

A section of the Kenyan public and leaders have criticized the DCA over allegations of misconduct by BATUK personnel.

Critics have raised concerns about human rights violations, environmental damage and the handling of cases involving British soldiers accused of offences in Kenya, calling for greater accountability and justice for affected communities.

One of the most prominent cases is the 2012 murder of Agnes Wanjiru, a Kenyan woman whose body was found in a septic tank in Nanyuki after she was reportedly seen with British soldiers.
