Mainga also said Kenya Railways was developing rail connections to major Nairobi sporting venues, including Talanta Stadium, Nyayo Stadium and City Stadium.

Kenya Railways has set June 2027 as the target to complete the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) extension, with the government allocating Ksh25 billion to compensate people affected by the project.

Kenya Railways Managing Director Philip Mainga on Thursday, October 8, said construction was already underway in Narok and other sections of the route, with the contractor currently doing excavation works.

Addressing the press in Narok, Mainga said by June next year, most aspects of the project, which covers six counties, will have been completed, paving the way for its use.

“We expect that by June next year we will be able to deliver most of the area for this project. This is a two-year project, and we expect it to proceed and we will be completing it in good time,” Mainga said.
