Once completed, the expressway will ease congestion along Thika Road, reduce travel times and improve the movement of people and goods.

The government has begun the design and feasibility study for the proposed 60-kilometre Nairobi-Thika Expressway, Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has announced.

Kindiki on Tuesday, October 6, said the proposed expressway would be built above the existing Thika Superhighway, starting from Thika town and ending at Museum Hill in Nairobi.

Speaking in Kiambu County, the DP said the expressway would connect directly to the Nairobi Expressway, creating an additional route for motorists travelling between Thika and Nairobi.

“We are undertaking the design and feasibility study for the construction of the Nairobi-Thika Expressway," Kindiki announced.

"The expressway will be elevated above the current Thika Road and will begin from Thika town and end at Museum Hill, joining directly to the Nairobi Expressway which begins at the JKIA," he added.
