DRC to Nairobi: Journey of Kenya's first Ebola patient/HILLARY BETT

The Ministry of Health has confirmed Kenya’s first imported case of Bundibugyo Ebola Virus Disease (BVD).

The patient, a Kenyan citizen who had lived in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) for seven years, developed symptoms about a month before travelling to Kenya.

After receiving initial medical care in the DRC, he travelled by road to Kampala, Uganda, before taking a commercial flight to Nairobi on Saturday, October 3.

Upon arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, he underwent routine port health screening and was later taken by relatives directly to Nairobi Hospital, where he was isolated.

Laboratory tests conducted by the National Virology Reference Laboratory (NVRL) and the Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) confirmed the diagnosis.
