Protesters Storm Murkomen’s Office, Demand Answers Over Fatal Shootings

القصص

There have been concerns over security operations in Samburu and other neighbouring pastoralist areas, particularly over allegations of livestock being shot indiscriminately.

Hundreds of protesters from the Maa pastoralist community have marched to the office of Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen in Nairobi to protest the killing of hundreds of cattle during security operations in Samburu and Laikipia counties.

The protesters are demanding answers over the deaths of more than 700 cattle, which they allege were killed by security forces after hundreds of cattle belonging to the Samburu community were impounded during security operations and disputes in the two counties in September.

Footage obtained by Kenyans.co.ke on October 6 shows hundreds of protesters, many dressed in Maa regalia, marching from Parliament Buildings to Harambee House, where the Interior Ministry is headquartered.

At Harambee House, police officers engaged the protesters peacefully as they sought to access the Interior CS's offices.
