The crash comes days after the demise of the 17 pilgrims along the same stretch, with mounting pressure on the government to dual the busy highway.
At least two people are feared dead following multiple-vehicle collisions along the Nairobi-Mombasa Highway.
Images obtained by Kenyans.co.ke on Monday, October 5, show two trailers and a car involved in separate crashes, leaving a trail of twisted metal and debris.
The images, taken along the highway as motorists descended from Salama towards Sultan Hamud, show one trailer ramming into another, with the tractor head extensively damaged at the front, pointing to a violent impact.
About 200 metres from the scene, a second crash was reported involving a small white Toyota Fielder whose front end was completely crushed in the collision.
At the first scene, several people, either dead or critically injured, are seen lying on the ground as crowds gather around the wreckage in a rescue mission.
