The University of Nairobi has rejected a memo circulating online that falsely claimed the institution would shut down temporarily in response to a lecturers' strike, stamping the document with a "FAKE NEWS" label.
The university's response came in the form of the marked document itself, with the stamp covering portions of the text to signal that the communication did not originate from any official office.
Dated September 30, 2026, the document was presented as an internal notice from the Office of the Academic Registrar, carrying a reference number (UON/AR/EXAMS/01/VOL.1/149) in a bid to suggest authenticity.
