Kenyans Given 14 Days as Govt Moves to Tighten Border Entry Rules

Stories

The update comes weeks after Ruto gave foreigners engaged in small-scale businesses in Kenya a chance to regularise their stay and business operations.

Foreigners seeking to enter Kenya could soon face tighter scrutiny as the government moves to introduce new regulations governing entry into and exit from the country.

The government has given members of the public 14 days to submit views on the proposed regulations, which seek to strengthen coordination at the country’s border points.

The Border Control and Operations Coordination Committee issued the notice on Friday, October 2, inviting Kenyans to review the draft Kenya Citizenship and Immigration (Border Control and Operations Co-ordination) Regulations, 2026.

The proposed regulations seek to establish a coordinated framework for managing Kenya's points of entry and exit across land, sea and air borders.

According to the committee, the regulations will promote a whole-of-government approach by bringing together agencies with different responsibilities at Kenya's borders.
