Nairobi County Unveils Fixed Collection Days & Zones for Special Waste

The county also proposed a standardised system for handling different categories of waste, with infectious waste, for instance, placed in yellow containers.

Nairobi City County is set to introduce fixed medical waste collection days across four city zones under its proposed Healthcare Waste Management Policy, 2026.

The timetable will divide Nairobi into four zones, Nairobi South, West, North and East, with medical facilities assigned specific collection days to prevent waste accumulation.

Under the proposed healthcare waste management plan, Nairobi North, covering Ruaraka, Kamukunji and Kasarani, will have medical waste collected every Monday.

Nairobi South, which covers Dagoreti, has been assigned Tuesday, while Nairobi East, comprising Embakasi West, Embakasi East and Makadara, will have medical waste collected every Wednesday.

Addtionally, Nairobi West, covering Starehe, Langata and Westlands, will have medical waste collection conducted every Friday under the proposed schedule.
