Tanzanian Couple Arrested After Passenger Drugged in Mombasa-Bound Bus

A routine journey from Nairobi to Mombasa took a worrying turn after a passenger woke up in hospital with his valuables gone.

A Tanzanian couple suspected of drugging unsuspecting bus passengers and stealing their belongings has been arrested in Mombasa after detectives traced a recent case to their home in Magongo.

According to the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the latest incident happened on September 18, 2026, when a passenger boarded a Dreamline bus from Nairobi to Mombasa.

The passenger, according to detectives, was seated next to a person who allegedly stupefied him during the journey, causing him to lose consciousness.

When the complainant later regained consciousness at Tudor Sub-County Hospital, he realised that his bag and other personal belongings were missing.

The incident prompted detectives from Makupa Police Station to launch investigations as they followed leads to establish who was behind the theft.
