Kahiga's election was announced during the 9th Ministerial Forum of the East Africa Local Governments Forum (EALGF), held in Nairobi.
Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga has been elected Chairperson of the East Africa Local Governments Association (EACLGA).
The decision places Kenya at the helm of regional local governance for the next two years.
In his acceptance remarks, Kahiga described his election as a collective responsibility, pledging to strengthen the association and ensure local governments have a greater role in regional integration.
"I stand before you today deeply honoured and humbled by the trust you have placed in me by electing me as the Chairman of EACGLA," he stated.
"To be chosen to lead this great association is not a personal victory, it is a collective responsibility. I accept this mandate with gratitude, with humility, and with a firm commitment to serve all our members equally."
