Canadian Minister of Jobs Patty Hajdu said the reforms will help address genuine labour shortages while ensuring Canadians receive priority in the labour market.
Kenyans seeking jobs in Canada or already working there will have to navigate new changes to the country's Temporary Foreign Worker Programme, which has introduced revised hiring rules.
The Canadian government announced the changes on Friday, November 6, introducing longer employment approval periods and new restrictions on the jobs employers can offer migrant workers.
One of the biggest changes allows Canadian employers to obtain Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) approvals that last up to two years, up from the previous maximum of one year.
An LMIA is an approval employers generally need before recruiting foreign workers, showing they could not find suitable Canadian citizens to fill the vacant slots.
