The road expansion works include the construction of interchanges, bridges, drainage systems, tolling infrastructure and road safety facilities.
The Public Private Partnership (PPP) Petition Committee has dismissed a petition by the Consumers Federation of Kenya (COFEK) challenging the proposed Ksh8 per kilometre toll charges on the Rironi-Mau Summit highway.
The committee struck out the petition after finding that the lobby group filed it outside the seven-day statutory deadline provided under the Public Private Partnerships Act.
The law requires anyone seeking to challenge a decision relating to a PPP project to submit a petition within seven days, a deadline the committee found Cofek had failed to meet.
In dismissing the petition, the committee noted that the lobby group also failed to indicate when the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) issued the disclosure document containing details of the proposed highway project.
