Thousands of residents across 14 Nairobi estates will go without water for 29 hours beginning Thursday, November 5, 2026, after the Nairobi City Water & Sewerage Company announced a planned shutdown of the Karimenu Transmission Pipeline.

The utility issued a public notice on Wednesday confirming that the pipeline will be taken offline from 3:00 am on Thursday through to 8:00 am on Friday, November 6.

The shutdown is required to allow the Athi Water Works Development Agency to carry out tie-in works, a technical process that involves connecting new pipeline sections to the existing network and demands that the system be fully depressurised beforehand.
