Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja's move to dump UDA for ODM has cleared the way for a looming scramble for the orange party’s ticket ahead of the elections.

Sakaja’s entry now brings the number of bigwigs seeking the party’s ticket for the Nairobi governor seat to three ahead of next year's elections.

Makadara MP George Aladwa – a long-serving ODM Nairobi chairman – was the first to declare his interest in the seat on the ODM ticket.

Kasarani MP Ronald Kariuki is said to be planning to join the party as he prepares to mount his bid for the city governorship.

“I have also seen MP for Kasarani showing interest in joining the party to contest for governorship in Nairobi. We welcome them,” ODM communication director Philip Etale said.
