Kenyans react to Bayern Munich vs Ajax’s match in January: “Kenya to the world”

Kenya is buzzing after President William Ruto confirmed on Tuesday, 28 October, that two of European football's most decorated clubs will descend on Nairobi in the new year.

German champions Bayern Munich and Dutch giants Ajax Amsterdam are set to clash on 5 January 2027 in what will be the first competitive event at the newly completed Raila Odinga International Stadium at Talanta Sports City, a 60,000-seater venue formerly referred to as Talanta Stadium.

The match carries significant symbolism. Ruto explained that the fixture honours the memory of the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, who studied in Germany at Leipzig University and Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg.
