Chaos as Youths Scramble for Scrap Metal From Collapsed Eastleigh Building

The discovery raised hopes for finding survivors as emergency teams continued working to locate people trapped inside the collapsed building.

Chaos erupted in Eastleigh on Wednesday, October 28, after rowdy youths raided Nairobi County trucks scrambling for scrap metal being transported from the site of a collapsed building.

Videos reviewed by Kenyans.co.ke showed the lorry carrying a huge load of scrap metal salvaged from the collapsed Eastleigh building as youths scrambled to collect pieces from the moving lorry.

The incident has drawn attention to the handling of materials recovered from the site, with rescue operations still ongoing and families waiting for news of their missing relatives.

Scrap metal has commercial value since it is sold to dealers and recycled for use in manufacturing and construction. This makes the discarded metal a source of income for collectors and traders, including those operating in the informal sector.
