The Linda Mwananchi movement brought its political campaign to Nairobi on Sunday with thousands turning out for the Jacaranda Grounds rally.

The Linda Mwananchi has been moving across the country in a bid to woe voters and popularise themselves before making a bolder move.

The Sifuna led outfit began its inaugural in Nairobi on Sunday September 13, 2026 at All Saints Cathedral where they attended a church service before embarking on stopovers at Kenyatta Avenue, Uhuru Highway, Jogoo road,  Marikiti, Burma and Gikomba markets and main rally at Jacaranda grounds  where Sifuna used the platform to rally Nairobi residents behind his 2027 presidential bid.

Addressing supporters at Marikiti market, Sifuna said the political feedback he has received during his countrywide tours points to growing support for his 2027 presidential bid. He accused President Ruto of failing to deliver on election pledges. He also pointed out that the slums in Nairobi are not a housing problem but an income problem.

There was heavy police presence limiting their movement towards the city.

 However, according to analyst, the numbers may signal growing influence but for the movement the real contest is still a head converting crowds into votes resolving the rivalry between Nairobi senator Edin Sifuna and Siaya governor James Orengo and producing one candidate with enough backing to enter the wider opposition Coalition talks ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

The question however remains. Can the movement translate the crowds on its streets into votes at the ballot? And can its leaders agree on one name to carry that vote into 2027?

Sifuna acknowledged that defeating Ruto would require a united opposition. “It will not be easy. We must walk together with Kalonzo Musyoka and Rigathi Gachagua, Fred Matiang'i and all other leaders in the opposition,” he noted.

Among those accompanying Sifuna were Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi, Siaya Governor James Orengo, Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya, former Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza, Kisii Senator Richard Onyoka, Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale, former Law Society of Kenya president Faith Odhiambo, Mavoko MP Patrick Makau, Kaiti MP Joshua Kimilu and political strategist Pauline Njoroge.

According to the leaders, their main agenda was to remove Ruto from power due to an unstable economy making it harder for Kenyans to pay bills.
