Eastleigh building collapse: Pregnant woman pulled alive from rubble as husband waited outside

A pregnant woman was rescued alive and stable after being trapped beneath collapsed concrete and twisted metal, as her husband waited anxiously outside for her.

When the rubble came down, it swallowed everything, including a pregnant woman and the unborn child she was carrying.

Her husband was left standing outside the wreckage with nothing to do but wait. He could not dig. He could not call out to her and expect an answer.

He could only hope that somewhere beneath the concrete, the iron bars, and the broken stone, his wife and baby were still breathing.

What made the situation almost unbearable to think about was the specific cruelty of it. She was not just any trapped survivor.

She was a woman who could go into labour at any moment, alone in the dark, with no doctor, no light, and tonnes of debris pressing down around her.
