22 TV Stations Facing Closure as Govt Moves to Revoke Licences

Story

According to the Communications Authority, the TV stations will close seven days after the announcement.

The Communications Authority of Kenya (CA) has issued a seven-day notice to revoke the broadcasting licences of 22 television stations, after which they will no longer be authorised to provide services under the affected licences.

In a Gazette Notice published on Friday, October 9, the regulator said the revocation would take effect seven days from the date of publication.

“Notice is given pursuant to the provisions of the Kenya Information and Communications Act that the Communications Authority of Kenya shall revoke the postal licences of the following service providers within seven (7) days from the date of this Gazette Notice,” CA stated.

The authority added that any resources held under the licences would revert to it once the revocation takes effect.
