Police, NTSA Turn to Japan as Kenya Prepares for Digital Speed Cameras

Already NTSA has been intensifying the rollout of Ksh45 billion Intelligent Transport System (ITS) across Nairobi to transition from manual traffic policing to AI-driven automation.

The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has turned to Japan to explore new digital speed camera technology as Kenya seeks to strengthen traffic management and road safety, especially in the capital, Nairobi.

A joint team from NTSA and the Kenya Police Service (KPS) has travelled to Japan for intensive operational training on Japan's traffic management systems.

Sponsored under the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Safe Systems Approach project, the training began on September 22 and will run until October 4.

"As part of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA)-sponsored Safe Systems Approach project, a joint Kenya Police Service and National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) team is in Japan for intensive operational training running from September 22 to October 4, 2026," Kenya Police stated.
