Ruto CS Announces Bid for Nairobi Governor After Sakaja UDA Exit

The announcement comes amid political realignments in Nairobi, with Sakaja joining ODM to defend his seat as Babu Owino seeks the same seat under Linda Mwananchi.

Public Service Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku has announced his intention to contest the Nairobi gubernatorial seat in the 2027 General Election, setting up a potential contest against incumbent Governor Johnson Sakaja.

Addressing residents of South B in Nairobi on Tuesday, November 3, Ruku said he was ready to take over the city's leadership and introduce changes aimed at improving service delivery and transforming the capital.

The CS maintained that Nairobi required a leader with integrity, vision and strong leadership skills, arguing that the city deserved someone capable of addressing its challenges and unlocking its potential.

“Nairobi is for all Kenyans, is the capital city of our country, and must be led as such. This is the hub of East Africa and the greater East and Central Business Hub,” Ruku stated.
