Once completed, the highway will ease traffic congestion, reduce travel time, improve road safety and facilitate the movement of people and goods across the region.
Transport Cabinet Secretary Davis Chirchir has pushed the opening of the Rironi-Naivasha section of the wider Ksh200 billion Rironi-Mau Summit highway to early December 2026 after missing the October 30 completion deadline.
Chirchir announced on Friday, October 30, when he hosted the National Assembly's Transport Committee to inspect the ongoing road construction works in Naivasha, Nakuru County.
The CS assured the MPs that the contractor was working within the revised timelines, with the government targeting an early December opening of the 60-kilometre Rironi-Naivasha section.
"Honourable members, I want to thank you as a committee for coming to see what the government is doing with public funds. This is one of our major projects aimed at opening up our country. We want to finish the dualling of the Nairobi-Naivasha section by December and open it for use," Chirchir said.
