Be careful with unknown event organisers. Confirm the details and avoid paying large amounts upfront to people you cannot verify.

Plan your transport as part of your budget. A free activity far away may cost more in fares than a cheaper one nearby.

Try sport or exercise groups that meet regularly, such as running or football groups, which are often free or low cost.

Cook and eat together. A shared meal with friends at home costs far less than a night out, and can be just as enjoyable.

Museums, galleries and cultural centres sometimes have free days or discounted prices. Check their official pages before going.

Prices vary by estate and seller. I would love people to name the item, location and approximate price so others can compare for themselves.

Locally sourced household items can be good value, but I would still compare durability and quality before buying.

Snacks and basic meals can be cheaper at a neighbourhood kiosk or food stall than at a mall food court.

Tailoring and simple clothing alterations can be better value at a local fundi than at a large retail outlet.

Some repair services are more affordable through reputable neighbourhood technicians, provided you check the quality of their work.

Keep copies of your documents and a list of emergency contacts, and learn the basics such as the nearest hospital, police station and stage.

Meet people. Join a community, club or faith group, and connect with colleagues, because a network makes a new city much easier.

Be careful with job offers that ask you to pay for training, placement or equipment. Legitimate employers do not normally charge applicants.

Look for temporary accommodation first if you can, such as a friend's place or a short-term rental, and then choose a long-term home once you know the area.

Budget for the first month before your first salary arrives. Rent, deposit, transport and food all come before payday, so you need a cushion.

Keep a buffer of a month's expenses for surprises, since most moves involve at least one unexpected cost.

Ask about connection fees if you want internet or satellite TV, since installation and deposit costs vary by provider and building.

Consider commuting changes. A move of a few kilometres can mean a different route, more connections and a larger transport bill.

Check the cost of daily needs nearby. Groceries, gas refills and airtime may cost different amounts depending on the area.

I want recommendations that mention entry fees, accessibility, safety considerations, opening hours and how to get there. A peaceful place should also be practical to visit.

I would choose a place on the outskirts that still feels accessible by public transport, so escaping the noise does not become another stressful journey.

A walking route in a leafy neighbourhood can be a good way to clear your head without planning a whole trip.

When recommending a place, share the name, area, what it offers and any costs you have confirmed yourself, so others can find and use it.

Local markets and small shops are often cheaper than supermarkets for fresh food, and the people there know the neighbourhood well.

Share the estate, signature dish, price range and nearest landmark. That makes a recommendation genuinely useful to someone planning a visit.

I would like to discover hidden gems outside the areas I usually visit. Nairobi is big enough that everyone probably has a favourite spot others have never tried.

I care about hygiene, fair portions and consistent taste as much as the price. A cheap meal is not a bargain if the quality is poor.

The best discovery might be a small place serving excellent chapati, stew or traditional vegetables at a reasonable price.

Look for a local spot where people order takeaway for their families. It can be a useful sign that the food is part of their regular routine.
