Start by checking the Civil Registration Services instructions on the official portal. The process and required documents depend on whether this is a first registration, a certificate for a child, a late registration, or a replacement or correction. Follow the instructions for your case, make payments only through the stated official process, and retain the application reference and receipt. Some cases require supporting documents or submission to a registrar, so an online application does not necessarily mean the entire process is completed online.

Work out which case you are in before you start: new registration, late registration, replacement, or correction. Each case has different supporting documents, and starting the wrong application type is the most common reason for delays.

For a recent birth, hospital or health-facility birth notification documents are normally the starting point, together with the parents' identification. Keep the originals safe and make clear copies, because several offices may ask to see them.
