Inside Plans for a New Public Park in Nairobi

Story

Some residents of Parklands have been issued with notices to move, with some buildings built on riparian land set to be brought down.

The Nairobi Rivers Commission and the Nairobi County government are finalising plans to turn the Kibagare River corridor into a continuous linear public park, stretching from Westlands through Parklands to Ojijo Road.

Kenyans.co.ke has established that the multi-agency initiative, led by the Nairobi Rivers Commission, combines enforcement operations against illegal riparian structures.

According to the Westlands Park Scheme Design aerial plan, reviewed by Kenyans.co.ke, the park alignment originates west of Ring Road Westlands, near the Sarit Centre and the Waiyaki Way interchange approaches.

The proposed green corridor follows the river southeast past Muthithi Road, Mpaka Road, and Parklands Road near The Oval, running alongside the Aga Khan Sports Club grounds towards First Parklands Avenue.
