Matiang’i Signals Support for Wanjiru’s Nairobi Governor Bid

Story

Jubilee is considering backing Bishop Margaret Wanjiru for Nairobi governor in 2027 under a proposed pact with her Kenya Moja Movement party.

NAIROBI, Kenya- Jubilee Party is exploring a political pact with Bishop Margaret Wanjiru’s Kenya Moja Movement that could see it back her 2027 Nairobi governorship bid and leave the race without its own candidate.

The discussions, which have been taking place behind the scenes, became public on Sunday when Jubilee Party leader Fred Matiang’i attended a service at Wanjiru’s Jesus Is Alive Ministries in Nairobi.

Matiang’i said he was keen to work with Wanjiru, a former Starehe MP who has been active in Nairobi politics for years. He also publicly backed her gubernatorial bid.

Under the proposed arrangement, Jubilee would support Wanjiru’s candidature on the Kenya Moja Movement ticket.

Jubilee aspirants in Nairobi could be encouraged to pursue other elective seats instead of contesting the governor’s position, according to the proposed terms of the talks.
