Under the wider plan, the Ksh65 billion railway network is expected to serve parts of Nairobi, Kiambu, Machakos, Kajiado and Murang’a counties.
Kenya Railways has begun the search for experts to support the planned modernisation and electrification of Nairobi’s Ksh65 billion commuter rail network.
In a statement on Tuesday, October 6, Kenya Railways said it had applied for World Bank funding for the project under the Kenya Urban Mobility Improvement Project (KUMIP), part of which will fund the hiring of experts.
“The government has applied for financing from the World Bank towards the cost of the Kenya Urban Mobility Improvement Project and intends to apply part of the proceeds for consulting services,” it said.
Among experts being sought is a Railway Electrical Systems Expert whose work will involve the electrical side of the railway project, particularly the systems needed to power and operate the trains.
