Sakaja, KARA partner to bring El Niño preparedness to Nairobi's 227 flood hotspots

Nairobi - Governor Sakaja Johnson has reached a formal coordination agreement with the Kenya Alliance of Residents Associations (KARA) to deepen community-level El Niño preparedness ahead of the October–December rainy season.

The two parties held talks at City Hall on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, with KARA's Governing Council in attendance, led by CEO Henry Ochieng.

The meeting centred on embedding residents' associations more firmly within the county's existing multi-agency flood response structure.

Under the arrangement, the Nairobi City County Government will share a map of 227 identified flood hotspots across the city with KARA coordinators, along with associated risk data.
