For years, residents from Garissa and neighbouring counties have had to endure long, costly journeys to Kenyatta National Hospital and other referral facilities

Residents of Northern Kenya will soon access specialised healthcare closer to home as Garissa Level 5 Teaching and Referral Hospital prepares for a upgrade to a level 6 facility.
The planned upgrade, alongside the development of a cancer centre and regional blood processing facility, is expected to strengthen the hospital's capacity to handle complex medical cases and ease the burden on patients who have traditionally travelled to Nairobi for specialised treatment.
The expansion is expected to change that by positioning Garissa as a major specialised healthcare centre serving Northern Kenya and neighbouring areas.
