NTSA Issues Fresh Directives to Long-Distance PSV Drivers, Operators

The directives are likely to affect long-distance travel, like journeys from Nairobi to Western Kenya, as PSV operators prepare for increased passenger traffic during the festive season.

The National Transport and Safety Authority has issued fresh directives to long-distance public service vehicle (PSV) operators in an effort to curb rising road crashes during this festive season.

In a brief statement on Wednesday, November 4, NTSA directed the operators plying long distances to deploy two drivers on every trip.

The directive, according to NTSA, is aimed at reducing fatigue, which has been identified over the years as a major cause of road accidents.

"Long Distance PSV operators and drivers should have two drivers on board at all times," NTSA stated.

Besides fatigue, the authority has identified overspeeding, reckless overtaking and drunk driving as major causes of road crashes in the country.
