State Sets Date for Groundbreaking of 60KM Nairobi-Thika Expressway

Once completed, the expressway is expected to address persistent traffic jams affecting motorists travelling from Thika town towards Nairobi CBD, especially during peak hours.

The government has announced plans to begin the Nairobi-Thika Expressway project within the next two months, with Deputy President Kithure Kindiki revealing that President William Ruto is expected to preside over the groundbreaking ceremony.

Speaking in Kiambu County on Wednesday, October 28, Kindiki said the government was finalising details of the project, which is expected to provide an alternative route for motorists travelling between Thika and Nairobi.

“Between one and two months, the President will come here for the groundbreaking of the road’s construction. We want to construct an expressway that links Thika town to Nairobi at Museum Hill,” Kindiki stated.

The proposed expressway will cover about 60 kilometres and is expected to ease persistent traffic congestion along the busy Nairobi-Thika route, which serves several towns including Thika, Ruiru and Juja.
