Court Deals Blow to Govt’s Construction Plans at Nairobi Animal Orphanage

Over 4,000 Kenyans had moved to court seeking to halt the new developments at the conservancy despite a heated defense by KWS on the need for the changes at the venue.

The Environment and Land Court in Nairobi has issued fresh orders barring the government from proceeding with the construction of a car park within the Nairobi Animal Orphanage or undertaking activities that could destroy sections of Nairobi National Park.

The latest directives were issued in a petition involving 4,642 Kenyans who have challenged development projects within the protected park, raising concerns over the destruction of wildlife habitats and the use of conservation land for construction.

The case, filed against the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS), the Attorney General and other respondents, seeks to stop developments that the petitioners argue could interfere with the park's protected status and threaten its wildlife.
